BARKIN/SELISSEN Project

The BARKIN/SELISSEN Project was developed as a collaboration between celebrated dancers Kyla Barkin and Aaron Selissen. As the directors and principal performers of this fresh endeavor, they strive to reach new levels of physical, emotional, cultural, and intellectual appeal, making leaps and bounds beyond known thresholds. The aim is for limitless possibilities through collaboration with highly respected artists, students, and community members from around the world. As seasoned performers, they have been reviewed by various publications including the New York Times, the Village Voice, the Star Ledger, Martha's Vineyard Times, and more.
KYLA BARKIN, raised in Tempe, AZ., studied with "La Mariquilla" at the Academia de Balet Flamenco in Granada, Spain. At the age of sixteen, she attended Arizona State University, then received her B.A. in Dance from UCLA. Kyla has been working with Janis Brenner & Dancers since 1993, with whom she has toured to countries such as Indonesia, Russia, and Taiwan as well as teaching and setting works at various universities and conservatories including the Juilliard School. Ms. Barkin has danced with Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends since 2003, The Carolyn Dorfman Dance Co., The Doug Elkins Dance Co., Tamar Rogoff Performance Projects, Kun-Yang Lin, Naomi Goldberg, and others. Her choreography has been shown internationally including New York venues such as The Merce Cunningham Theatre, Dance Space, Dixon Place, Center Stage, the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, Grand Space, regularly at The Moveable Feast, and more. She has been on faculty at USDAN Center for Performing Arts and teaches classes, private lessons and workshopes inernationally. Kyla is also a Fitness Professional, a Medical Excercise Specialist, a Yoga teacher, has published both poetry and prose, is a singer/songwriter, and one of the original producers of The Moveable Feast, a "pARTy on the move w/an ever-changing menu".
AARON SELISSEN is originally from Green Bay, WI. In 2002, he received his B.F.A. in dance performance from Butler University. While attending school, he performed with Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre and Ballet Internationale. Following graduation, he joined David Hochoy's Dance Kaleidoscope of Indianapolis. During his time with Dance Kaleidoscope, he enjoyed annual residencies at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. In 2005, Mr. Selissen moved to NYC and was invited to dance with the Martha Graham Dance Ensemble. In addition to B/S P, he can be seen dancing with Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company, Janis Brenner and Dancers, Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends, and David Shen Dance Group. Aaron also teaches workshops and classes, is a singer/songwriter, guitarist, and an independent Fitness Professional.

Kyla Barkin and Aaron Selissen teach workshops in a variety of formats including technique, improvisation, and rep.. They offer group classes, private and company coaching for dancers and choreographers, as well as teach yoga, and offer personal training services.
